Auchentoshan Three Wood ist ein ganz besonderer Lowland Single Malt Whisky. Zu erst einmal ist dieser Auchentoshan wie alle Whiskys der Marke Auchentoshan dreimal destilliert. Die Besonderheit ist jedoch die Tatsache, dass er anschließend in drei verschieden Fässern lagert - deshalb auch der Name Three Wood. Zuerst lagert Auchentoshan Three Wood über den längsten Zeitraum in Bourbon Fässern. Anschließend verbringt er ein Jahr in spanischen Oloroso Sherry Fässern und am Ende weitere sechs Monate in Pedro Ximenez Fässern. Dieser hohe Aufwand, der durch die dreifache Lagerung betrieben wird, macht sich im tollen Geschmack des Auchentoshan Three Wood schlussendlich bezahlt.

Auchentoshan
auchentoshan - markenseite sorten-übersichtDie Brennerei von Auchentoshan liegt im schottischen Dorf Old Kilpatrick in der Region Lowlands. Der typisch weiche und milde Single Malt Whisky wurde hier bereits seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts produziert, als John Bulloch die Duntocher Distillery gründete. Einige Jahre später ging daraus dann Auchentoshan hervor. Die Eigentümer des Unternehmens wechselten in den folgenden Jahrzehnten immer wieder (seit 1994 ist die Brennerei Teil des japanischen Whisky-Herstellers Suntory - Stand 2020). Auf die Qualität des Single Malt Whisky hatte das jedoch keinen negativen Einfluss. Bis heute wird Auchentoshan Whisky von Kennern geschätzt und wird wie folgt ausgesprochen: "Oschentoschen".

Es gibt eine ganze Reihe hervorragender Single Malt Whiskys aus dem Hause Auchentoshan. Dazu zählen der 12 Jahre alte Whisky - welcher wie alle Auchentoshans ganze dreimal statt wie oft üblich nur zweimal destilliert wird, aber auch der Three Wood, der in drei verschiedenen Fässern gelagert wird und dadurch seine tiefe Eleganz erhält. Besonders edel ist zudem der 18 Jahre alte Lowland Malt, der durch seinen feinen, delikaten und weichen Charakter begeistert. Der geschätzte Auchentoshan Classic wurde 2013 vom neuen American Oak abgelöst, der durch ein sehr feines Aroma und süße Bourbon Noten gefällt.
