Single Malt Whisky, 12 Jahre gereift, 43,4% Vol.

Mortlach 12 Jahre The Wee Witchie gehört zum Kernportfolie der Mortlach Destillerie. Nach einiger Zeit wurden wieder Flaschen mit Altersangabe abgefüllt. Seinen Namen erhält der 12 Jährige von einer der Stills, deren Name Wee Witchie ist. Geschmacklich überzeugt er mit einer süß - würzigen Note, umspielt von braunem Rohrzucker, dunkler Schokolade, leichtem Tabak und Kirschmarmelade. Bereits in der Nase zeigen sich kräftige Aromen von Eiche und Sandelholz. Verbranntes Toffee, rote Beeren und leichte Gewürznoten runden das Aromenspiel ab. Im Abgang ist er weich und trocken, mit einem Hauch bitterer Pflaume. Gelagert wurde er in Ex Sherry-/ und Bourbonfässern.

mortlach scotch whisky - markenseite sorten-übersichtDie Whiskybrennerei Mortlach aus dem schottischen Dufftown wurde im Jahr 1823 von James Findlater, Donald Mackintosh und Alexander Gordon gegründet und ist somit die älteste legale Destillerie aus der Stadt Dufftown. Der Brennereiname ist mehrdeutig und wird überwiegend mit „großer grüner Hügel“ oder „schüsselförmiges Tal“ übersetzt. Aktuell ist Mortlach Teil des international agierenden Spirituosen-Konzerns Diageo und der derzeit destillierte Whisky ist seinem Charakter nach typisch für die Whiskyregion Speyside. Seit 2018 bilden die 12-, 16- und 20-jährigen Single Malt Abfüllungen das Kernsortiment der Brennerei, welches u.a. von Sonderabfüllungn wie dem hier erhältlichen Mortlach 15 Jahre Game of Thrones Six Kingdoms Whisky begleitet werden. Da Mortlach erst seit wenigen Jahre wieder selbst abfüllt, finden sich auch viele unabhängig abgefüllte Destillate auf dem Markt, die teils ohne Altersangaben verkauft werden. Die eher ungewöhnliche Dreifachdestillation, welche beispielsweise für Irischen Whiskey typisch ist, macht die Whiskys der Marke Mortlach zu etwas Besonderem und sorgt für außergewöhnlich weiche Spirituosen.
